It has been 30 years since the term “sustainability” was first introduced and broadly defined in Brundtland’s 1987 report also known as “Report of the World Commission on Environment and Development: Our Common Future”. Sustainability, as an essential base of various disciplines, was firstly associated with economic development processes in early 1990s, however nowadays it is used as an umbrella concept covering both environmental, economic and socio-cultural aspects with a special focus on protection, preservation and transfer of all natural and manufactured resources to future generations. As defined in Brundtland Report, “sustainable development” is not static term but dynamic process taking shape with respect to scientific and technological advancements. Its dynamic nature necessitates efficient resource and investment management that are essentially need to be in close relationship with today’s requirements and future conditions.
Concordantly, this congress aims to discuss and redefine the term sustainability with its all dimensions in various disciplines including architecture, planning and design, to extend the term’s boundaries through fulfilling it with scientific, genuine, innovative and inspiring studies and to foster cooperation within and between different disciplines at international level.
The three base dimensions of the term, known as environmental, economic and socio-cultural sustainability, shall be regarded as initial discussions to go beyond the limits of sustainability. Accordingly, researchers are expected and encouraged to develop innovative and genuine studies driven from base discussions to redefine sustainability beyond its boundaries.
Throughout congress, it is planned to discuss “sustainability” in different competences. Graduate students pursuing their masters or phds on sustainability, academicians, and professionals are highly encouraged to present their studies. Besides, workshops, special sessions and table discussions are to be organized to host worldwide known experts to give their speeches.
The congress will be held in English and participants are expected to make presentations at least for 10 minutes. Submitted extended abstracts will be peer reviewed, and published in proceedings book. Furthermore, selected extended abstracts will be offered to be published as full papers in high-ranked academic journals. On behalf of organization committee, we are glad to invite you to our international congress.
